Abstract: 

The present study has been conducted to evaluate the amount of attention to validity assessment process of research tools, by reviewing the articles published in knowledge & information science journals in Iran over past 10 years. In this research, articles of 8 Persian scientific and research journals in the field of knowledge & information science in Iran, published between 2006 to 2015, were analyzed in a content analysis method. In total, 1763 research articles related to 211 issues of journals were analyzed and research tools and methods for determining the validity of research tools investigated. According to research findings, there was no reference to validity of research tools in 36. 87% of reviewed articles. In 23. 22% of articles, only validity of research tools was confirmed but the method and procedure for determining validity were not mentioned. In 4. 31% of articles, researchers stated that validity of research tools was confirmed in previous studies and therefore they did not consider the validity. In 375 articles (32. 38%), the method of determining validity of tools was mentioned. In terms of the methods used to measure validity of tools, results indicated that 16. 66% of articles evaluated their tool validity by face validity and 20. 30% by content validity method. Of other types of validity, the criterion validity was lowest, and only 2 articles (0. 17%) used this method to assess validity of their tools. 5. 26% of articles also used construct validity, which has highest level of validity. Also, results showed that a very small number of journals in the research population have published articles related to psychometrics of research tools. Therefore, the knowledge & information science journals are required to pay more attention to publish articles related to validity assessment of research tools for more familiarity with this process and its importance in designing tools by researchers. Also, journals in this area should be more sensitive on report of validity assessment process of research tools in the methodology section of articles in the process of reviewing articles.

Abstract: 

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was structural monitoring of the articles in knowledge and information science field in five Iranian journals. Today, the publication of papers constitutes one of the written scope among scientific broad cost productions.Materials and Methods: The research method was analytical-survey. The articles were analyzed by the variables such as author distribution by sex, field of study, scientific notation, types of articles by original papers or translated papers, individual or group articles and their publication dates, and by statistical methods used in the articles in two periods from 2002-2006 and 2007-2011.Results: The results showed that most of the articles were written as original. International cooperation between authors was minimal. Using qualitative research methods among the articles were low. Majority of the authors had masters degree. There was a significant relationship between the authors’ grades, number of authors and journals, and used statistical methods.Conclusion: The written articles in the field of knowledge and information, followed by special patterns. The journals policies in publication of articles process is the most important issue. Also, lack of international cooperation between Iranian with foreign authors, type and format of the articles were similar according to mentioned variations.

Abstract: 

Objective: Today, the role of physical and financial resources as a competitive advantage among organizations has diminished and is largely based on strategic management of knowledge and knowledge assets. This, in turn, has led to the emergence of companies and organizations whose core foundation is knowledge and application of ideas, creativity, and innovation in the realities of the new business world. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of identifying the components of knowledge management that affect the startups in Knowledge and Information Science. Methodology: The present study was conducted in two parts: qualitative (Meta synthesis and Delphi) and quantitative (exploratory factor analysis); first, the components of knowledge management for startups were identified by the Meta synthesis method and the components identified by the Delphi method were counted. Then, exploratory factor analysis was used to summarize and categorize the components. The population of the study included 30 experts in the field of Knowledge and Information Science and knowledge management, and in the exploratory section, the opinions of 300 IT startup managers were used. The research instrument was a researcher made questionnaire. The data were analyzed through SPSS software using mean and standard deviation, Bartlett and KMO test, and exploratory factor analysis. Finding: The findings show that the components of the knowledge management of startups in Knowledge and Information Science are nine factors of knowledge recognition, knowledge creation, knowledge organization, knowledge presentation, knowledge sharing, knowledge application, knowledge development, knowledge change and knowledge protection, which explain 70. 096 percent of the variance of Knowledge Management of Startups in Knowledge and Information Science. The results of exploratory factor analysis also show that the components of knowledge application, knowledge sharing and knowledge creation are the most important components of knowledge management of startups in Knowledge and Information Science, respectively. Conclusion: The results of this research can be used as a model for the implementation of knowledge management and thus provide the ground for the growth and development of such startups as much as possible.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The aim of this research study was to determine the information literacy of students and its relation with education and demographic variables. Methodology: In this applied study quantitative approach and survey method was used. Research instrument was a questionnaire validated by Davarpanah and Siamak (2000). Population of the study was undergraduate students of Knowledge and Information Science in Azarbaijan Shahid Madani university. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential parametric statistics and SPSS Findings: Information literacy score for second year, junior and senior students was a little more than midpoint. Information literacy score of freshman students was lower than midpoint. Based on independent T test, there was significant difference in mean score of information literacy between girl and boy students. Based on ANOVA test there was significant difference in mean score of information literacy based on entrance year of the students. Result of the Pearson correlation showed that there was positive and significant relation between Grade Point Average (GPA) of students and their information literacy score. Result of ANOVA test showed that there was no significant difference in mean score of information literacy among three groups of students based on their type of diploma. Conclusion: Based on the findings it can be concluded that information literacy of freshman students was lower than three other groups. The students who had better GPA, they also had higher information literacy. Although, the mean score of information literacy for students was above the midpoint, but with considering their field of study, it was unpleasant.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Content analysis of scientific journals is a good method for becoming aware of the evolutionary flow of research strategies and data collection techniques used researchers in different fields. The aim of this study was to investigate the content analysis of Persian released articles from Iranian Knowledge and information science Journals in terms of research strategies and data collection techniques.Material and methods: This study was conducted using content analysis method. The data collection technique was checklist and document observation. The study population included 943 Persian articles published in the field of Knowledge and Information Science in scientific-research and peer-reviewed Iranian Journals during 2005-2009. Data were entered to SPSS software and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Chi-square formula.Findings: the study showed that citation (42.71%) and survey (37.63%) methods were the most popular methods used by the Iranian researchers in the field of Knowledge and Information Science. The most common technique for data collection was citation (50.44%) and questionnaire (25.63%) among researchers, respectively. Chi-square indicated that there was a significant difference between scientific-research and peer-reviewed journals based on research methods and data collections techniques.Conclusion: Study of the published articles indicated the asymmetric distribution of research methods and data collection techniques used in knowledge and information science field.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To examine terminology chaos in the domain of information management through checking reference sources: Persian subject heading, Persian Cultural Thesaurus (Asfa), Descriptive dictionary of information science and related areas and Online Dictionary for Library and Information Science (ASIS).Methodology: Content analysis. To collect data, vocabulary in information, information management, information retrieval and all their hypertext words in ODLIS were searched and their Persian equivalents were examined in 4 reference sources.Results: The most similarities exist between Descriptive dictionary of information science and related areas and ASIS (55.88%) and the most differences found between Descriptive dictionary of information science and related areas and Persian Cultural Thesaurus (Asfa) (85.3%).Conclusion: Since reference sources of knowledge and information science are often used by experts and researchers, there needs to be a more consistency among their words to avoid any confusion, misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

Abstract: 

Purpose: Historically reviewing and criticizing the trend of qualitative research in the field of knowledge and information science (KIS).Methodology: Literature review.Results: Quantitative research techniques have been focused for many decades as the best and sometimes the only appropriate methodology in KIS. The historical review of the field shows the weakness of qualitative research approaches and reveals that positivistic approach is still at work. Therefore, focus on instrumentation and ignorance of theory-building is seen in the field.Conclusion: It is suggested that subjects that help in expansion of theory-building are considered when stating research problems.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To identify, analyze and explain the factors impacting entrepreneurship of knowledge and information science students in Iran.Methodology: Using structured questionnaire with 6 questions for demographic information and 24 questions for factors affecting entrepreneurship, all knowledge and information science students in Iran were surveyed. Data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis.Results: Five factors with above one eigenvalues recognized that were named with titles "skills enhancement", "content", "education", "promote" and "support". These factors explained 74.66% of variances of factors influencing entrepreneurship of knowledge and information science students.Conclusion: Attention of curriculum planners and knowledge and information science department chairs to five aforementioned factors will increase knowledge and information science students' entrepreneurial and flourish entrepreneurship in the field.
